Gaumukh Tapovan Trek

The Most Sacred and Mystical Trek in Northern India

(Gaumukh Tapovan Trek ) The Garhwal is perhaps one of the most sacred and mystical northern India, fascinating area from the point of view of nature with meadows, forests and the majestic peaks of the Shivling and Nanda Devi. Our trek takes us to Gaumukh, the mythological source of the River Ganges, which is at the snout of the Gangotri glacier. At Gaumukh, blocks of glacier fall into the river and pilgrims ‘cleanse themselves of their sins’ in freezing water. The Gangotri glacier’s melting water forms the Bhagirathi River and at this point the river parkles and starts its rapid descent through the mountains.

Gaumukh Tapovan trek is perfect for adventure lovers taking you to the glacial Kedartal Lake sitting amid the cauldron of one of the most famous mountains of our country. Tapovan, on the other hand, has so much fun with green grasslands, streams, Mountain View, and a lot more adventure in each step.
A combination of the trek and the Bhagirathi rafting expedition is an excellent introduction to the adventure opportunities as well the colorful culture and traditional village life of the Himalayas. The trek starts from Gaumukh glacier, the mythological origin of the river Ganges.

We continue our walk and reach the campsite of Bhojbasa, home of birch (now only a few left in the much denuded area) and setup camp.Take an evening stroll to one of the high points close-by for better acclimatization of the body to the surroundings. We may get a chance to see a group of ibexes or capture a beautiful sunset on Bhagirathi group of peaks and take a glimpse of the majestic mt.Shivling peak. Overnight in tents & Dinner.

It approximately takes more than hour for do that one crossing, as at a time only two people along with luggage can do the crossing. Spend time admiring the beauty and the power of the nature. It’s a visual treat and an experience in itself to watch the Ganga gush out of the snout of the Gangotri glacier. From here we will have to traverse the gigantic Gangotri glacier to cross over to the other side and climb up to Tapovan. Tapovan is rewarded manifolds as one this is a spectacular bugyal (high altitude meadow) situated at the base of the Shivling peak and is surely one of the top places to visit across Himalayas.
